Hellevoetsluis is an old fortified town and naval port on Voorne-Putten Island in the province of South Holland.
Traditionally, wooden houses were built in places that were within firing range of the enemy. The spirit of that tradition lives on in a number of wooden houses in Evertsenplein, the historic centre of Hellevoet. For this recreation project, we decided to keep with tradition. The result was a harbour architecture with timber houses. Verandas and bow windows give the houses a ‘second skin’ to withstand the wind and rain.
